The Mechanical and Materials Engineering Open House provided an excellent opportunity to engage with prospective students, families, and community members. During the event, visitors explored our laboratories, observed a variety of interactive demonstrations, and learned about the innovative research and hands-on learning opportunities available within the department. Faculty, staff, and students were on hand to explain our academic programs, discuss career pathways in mechanical and materials engineering, and answer questions about student experiences and opportunities. The event showcased the strength of our programs and highlighted the exciting work being conducted in our teaching and research labs, helping visitors gain a deeper understanding of the field and its impact on society.
The Science Museum of Western Virginia camp is for girls. Our goal is to engage young women in STEM learning. We focus on 'role modeling' and offering the girls exciting hands-on activities in STEM fields.

The Building Leaders for Advancing Science and Technology (BLAST) is a partnership between the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, Old Dominion University (ODU), University of Virginia (UVA), Virginia Tech (VT) and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our demonstrations is aimed to showcase some of the exciting things in materials science and engineering, with the goal of increasing student curiosity.

C-Tech² offers an opportunity to rising junior and senior high school girls to learn what goes on on Virginia Tech campus and provides access to information and technology necessary to best prepare them for their career selection.
What is C-Tech² all about?
Exploring applications of engineering in a way that is fun and exciting.
Spending time involved in hands-on activities to increase their interest in and knowledge of applications of engineering to real world situations.

JROTC STEM Leadership Academy is a weeklong residential camp for high school students who have previously participated in the Army 4th Brigade JROTC program in their high school. The goal of this program is to introduce students to the various fields of science, technology, and engineering and experience a modified military environment so that they can become involved in STEM, ROTC and the Corps of Cadets as collegiate undergrads whether at Virginia Tech or otherwise, leading to careers in STEM. Participants take part in hands on activities, lab tours and complete a design project, culminating in a showcase on the last day. We are part of this week-long experience.
